Behind a Lovely Smile- Are your gorgeous white pearly teeth.
Teeth are the most understated entity when it comes to health and beauty. Other than those who whiten their teeth, visit dentists, there are really very few who actually look after their teeth. We always take them for granted. But we shouldn't. Good teeth represent good health.
I would like to share whatever knowledge I have about maintaining a good oral health. And also a mention about the products I use.
DO:
1. Visit Dentist Regularly: Visit your dentist regularly. About twice a yearl. And get your teeth cleaned. The Dental Hygienist do a great job of cleaning. Here in the US most of the insurance covers dental cleaning for free. Even if your insurance doesn't cover it up- save up money and go for it
2. Brush Twice a Day: Since a kid, I was forced into brushing twice daily. But you know us as kids. Did we listen? Do we still listen? But today I do. Come What May- I will brush before I sleep. In my travel suitcase- I place my extra tooth brush and toothpaste. So that I don't forget. Some people brush after every meals. But that is not good for enamel[Those who use Invisalign need to brush&rinse after every meal ]. Also Brush for 2 minutes- unless you have been told otherwise.
3. Floss: Floss after brushing your teeth. And my dentist is very proud of me for doing so :) Go for easy floss that is not too thick and does not hurt you. First two times flossing will feel weird. But you will get used to it. My personal experience is that Men HATE flossing.
My Preference:
Toothpaste: As much as I love going the green way, the green(toothpaste) does not like coming my way. A year ago, I fell in Love with the Toms of Maine toothpaste. The tarter control and cavity protection one. It is awesome guys! It does not contain nasty chemicals, triclosan and other stuff. But few months down the line, I felt I need something stronger. So I switched back to Colgate total. I wish I could continue using Toms of Maine forever.
Rinse: I have the Toms of Maine- Baking soda based Rinse. It is really good. And Listerine. Never swallow the rinse. Although I don't really use any rinse these are the two brands I have used. I get irritated throat if I use it at night before going to bed. I guess they are too strong for me.
ToothBrush: For manual tooth brush ALWAYS use the soft/ gentle toothbrush. Growing up I always felt harder the tooth brush- better the clean. But that is wrong. Use a soft head and use it gently but correctly all over the sides of teeth. I prefer Colgate Total 360 clean- Soft. AMong the electric ones I have tried the Oral-B vitality- GOOD, Pulsonic- Strictly OK, Crest- OK. I have been saving up a while for this and I could finally get it couple of months ago- My Orab-b Pro Results. This one is the killer. It is the best brush. Initially I thought I put my $$$ down the drain. But this one gets some time getting used to. It has many options. I am not advertising or anything. But whichever brush you choose- 2 minutes and soft brush are the keys.
Floss: I like the Toms of Maine flat floss. It is superb. But I find it too thick to put between the teeth. Colgate floss is good too. The one I use is Oral-b essential.
With Indian Twist:
For centuries our ancestors in India have used neem twig as a tooth brush. It is excellent for oral health. Vicco Vajradanti, Babool, Amar toothpaste are the Golden brands that are Vegan and all have been BORN in India. And used by everyone- In addition to Colgate etc.
